Olatz Roman

My research examines gender inequality within households and in labour markets. Within households, I study how childbirth induces inequalities in the form of household specialisation. I am interested in how this shapes economic inequality between partners over time, and how these dynamics influence fertility, couple formation and dissolution. In labour markets, I analyse the evolution of gender differences in occupational choices, documenting how these gaps have changed and assessing how they shape the spatial distribution of workers, generate gendered migration patterns and interact with joint household decision-making. Broadly, my work is motivated by connecting micro-level choices within families with aggregate patterns of inequality across space and time.
